Ideas to Make Money From Home

If you are a stay-at-home wife or mom, making it work with just one income can often be challenging. Today’s world is set up to not favor one-income homes. It’s a shame really, because having a parent or spouse focusing on the home and family is truly a blessings, and makes for a more peaceful and well-run home environment. I decided I’d share a few quick tips with you if you’re interested in using your time to bring a little extra money into the home budget. This isn’t a comprehensive list, just a few ideas to get you started. After, I’ll tell you what I personally do to bring in extra income.

There are several ways to earn money from home, especially if you're looking to relieve financial stress. Here are some options:

1. Freelancing

  • Writing, Design, and Development: Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer allow you to offer your skills (writing, graphic design, web development, etc.) to clients globally.

  • Virtual Assistant: Many small businesses need help with administrative tasks, and you can offer these services remotely.

2. Online Tutoring or Teaching

  • If you have expertise in a particular subject, you can teach students online through platforms like VIPKid, Chegg Tutors, or even create your own courses on platforms like Udemy.

  • Great if you enjoy helping others and the options on what you can teach or tutor in are limitless. Think interviewing skills (definitely a lost art today), public speaking, helping with a foreign language, even crafts and hobbies. People love one-on-one help.

3. Selling Products Online

  • eCommerce: You can sell products on websites like Etsy (for handmade items), eBay, or even start your own online store with Shopify.

  • Print on Demand: Use services like Printful or Teespring to design and sell custom merchandise without needing to handle inventory.

  • I’m definitely not talking MLM or Network Marketing. Those tend to turn people away/off and can cost followers or worse. I’m talking taking your creativity and putting it to a practical, marketable use. These platforms are so easy to use and user friendly, and adding AI platforms like ChatGPT can take it to a new level.

4. Affiliate Marketing

  • Promote products or services on your website, blog, or social media, and earn a commission on sales made through your referral links. Amazon Associates and ShareASale are popular platforms for this.

  • If you aren’t sure how to use these, again, AI is an incredibly helpful tool, and there are countless “how-to” videos on YouTube to teach you how.

5. Content Creation

  • YouTube or Blogging: If you can create engaging content, you can monetize through ads, sponsorships, or by selling your products.

  • Social Media Influencing: If you have a strong following on social media, brands might pay you to promote their products.

  • People are getting sick of those “perfect” influencers, and are looking for more relatable people to learn from and follow. Take what you know and share it! Are you a good cook? Have cleaning and/or organizing tips? Love to garden? Share it!

6. Remote Customer Service

  • Companies like Amazon and other large businesses often hire remote customer service representatives. These positions typically require a stable internet connection and good communication skills. Also you must be patient. Customer service reps can be some of the most mistreated folks out there.

7. Transcription or Data Entry

  • Companies like Rev or TranscribeMe offer opportunities to transcribe audio files or perform data entry tasks. This can be done from home with minimal equipment.

  • How are your typing skills? If you learned when you were young (like me, in high school) then put that to use. If you feel rusty, there are apps and online platforms that you can use to practice and build your speed.

8. Online Surveys and Market Research

  • Websites like Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, and Vindale Research pay users to take surveys or participate in market research. While it won’t make you rich, it can be a way to earn extra cash.

  • Just keep in mind, these are really time-consuming and really don’t pay that well. I’d only suggest these as a “spare time” kind of thing.

9. Renting Out Assets

  • Room or Property: Use Airbnb to rent out a spare room or property.

  • Car: Platforms like Turo allow you to rent out your car when you're not using it.

  • Please use these options cautiously.

10. Investing

  • If you have some savings, consider investing in stocks, real estate, or peer-to-peer lending. However, this comes with risks, so it’s important to do thorough research or consult a financial advisor.

  • Again, use these options cautiously.

Think about farmers markets: make arts and crafts, baked goods, paintings, start seedlings… get creative with these, but be sure to know and understand their guidelines on what you can sell or offer.

There are SO MANY options available to help you make extra money, and some of these can turn into a full-time income if you handle them correctly. Let’s not forget delivery services like DoorDash, UberEats, Instacart, and Walmart delivery. Just be cautious and wise using these.

That’s it for now, my friends. As always, please ask questions if you have them, or contact me for more details.
